European - Asian Society for Breast Disease
One of the most worrying recent developments in epidemiological oncology is the steady increase in breast cancer incidence in most Eastern countries, where the disease was underestimated only 30 years ago. Increase in incidence over such a large geographic area will require massive efforts to achieve effective disease control, and it is reassuring that professional associations dedicated to such control are appearing in many countries.
We believe that the experience accumulated in Western countries – where breast cancer has been common for over a century and where mortality is now declining – could be useful in other parts of the world. We therefore feel that collaboration between cancer experts on different continents would be very useful and have taken the initiative, with a few friends, of founding the Euro-Asian Society for Breast Diseases.
